The al-Jaysh Terrorist Network

Al-Jaysh (Arabic: الجيش‎ al-Jaysh, translation: “The Army” and alternatively spelled al-Jaish), is a global terrorist organization founded by Abu Hussein al-Mosuli at some point between May 2011 and late December 2013, with origins traceable to Al-Qaeda (Arabic: القاعدة‎ al-qāʿidah, translation: “The Base”), a global militant Sunni Islamist organization founded by Osama bin Laden. According to the United States, al-Jaysh is a global terrorist network operating throughout the Middle East, Pakistan, and North Africa.

It operates as a network comprising both a multinational, stateless army and an extremist, wahhabi jihadist group. It has been designated as a terrorist group by the United Nations Security Council, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the European Union, the United States, Russia, India, and various other countries. Al-Jaysh has carried out many attacks on targets it considers kafir.
